Orrick hires Goldman Sachs litigation chief Cafasso

(Reuters) – Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe stated Thursday it has employed Darrell Cafasso, who was world head of litigation at Goldman Sachs Group Inc, as a New York-based companion in its monetary companies litigation observe.

The rent was introduced two and half months after the voluntary dismissal with prejudice of a lawsuit towards Cafasso and Goldman through which Cafasso was accused of sexual harassment.

Marla Crawford, a former Goldman affiliate basic counsel, alleged that Goldman lowered her efficiency evaluate and bonus, and fired her in September 2020, in retaliation for her complaining about Cafasso’s alleged effort to “romantically prey” upon a youthful feminine subordinate with whom he had change into infatuated.

The defendants in courtroom papers referred to as Crawford’s accusations “patently and demonstrably false.” Crawford’s lawsuit was dismissed on Aug. 18, six months after a choose granted the defendants’ movement to compel arbitration and keep the case.

David Gottlieb, a lawyer for Crawford on the Wigdor regulation agency, stated the case had been “resolved,” and declined to remark additional.

Orrick chairman Mitch Zuklie stated in an announcement that the regulation agency had fastidiously vetted Cafasso’s document.

“Nothing is more important to me, our partners and our team than our culture,” Zuklie stated. “Darrell and I have spoken about this and he has assured me that he understands and embraces our culture and values. We do not tolerate anyone at our firm who does not.”

Cafasso turned Goldman’s litigation chief in 2018 after six years as a companion at Sullivan & Cromwell, the place his shoppers included Goldman, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Fiat Chrysler Vehicles NV, now a part of Stellantis NV.

“I’m excited about the challenge of building something” at Orrick, Cafasso stated in an announcement offered by the agency, touting its “platform” and litigator lineup. He’ll be part of the agency on Jan. 1, 2022.

Goldman individually on Thursday introduced the promotion of two attorneys, David Markowitz and Stephanie Goldstein, to world co-heads of litigation. They may report back to Kathryn Ruemmler, the funding financial institution’s basic counsel and chief authorized officer, in line with an inside memo.

Markowitz joined Goldman as a managing director in 2011, after working for then-New York lawyer basic Andrew Cuomo, the U.S. Securities and Change Fee, and regulation agency Stroock & Stroock & Lavan.

Goldstein joined Goldman as a managing director in 2013, after being a litigation companion at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.

In her memo, Ruemmler thanked Cafasso for his “many contributions” at Goldman and stated she seemed ahead to working with him in his new function.
