Justice on the go 🚗
A judge has been given a proper warning for conducting a hearing from his car.
The Judicial Conduct Investigations Workplace (JCIO) stated deputy district judge Christopher McMurtie dealt with the hearing, “partly while driving and using his phone in hands-free mode”.
The judge discovered himself within the considerably uncommon place after having to journey unexpectedly for private causes. He accepted the transfer was “misguided” and gave assurances as to his future conduct.
No additional particulars had been offered.
In a statement published this week the JCIO stated: “The Lord Chief Justice, with the Lord Chancellor’s agreement, has issued Deputy District Judge Christopher McMurtie with a formal warning for misconduct… The judge failed to meet the expectation to avoid conduct which might reduce respect for judicial office.”
